Signs of Attention Deficit Disorder Add/Adhd in Adults

Although thought of as a childhood disorder Add and Adhd does not go away in adulthood.   You either learn to control it's effects or it effects you.   Adults get less hyperactive as they age.  But, the attention deficit is still there.  It becomes your personality.  As Billy Joel put it " An Angry Young Man".  Add/Adhd symptoms can mimic life.  Everyone may show some sign of each of them at times in their life.  An Adult with Attention Deficit Disorder will show more than s few symptoms all the time.

Here are some signs of ADD Attention Deficit Disorder in Adults.

Impulsive
Easily Distracted
Angry outbursts
Lateness
Procrastinate
Losing things
Unorganized
Poor listening skills
Marital problems
No motivation
Addiction
Lack of focus
Trouble getting up
Recklessness
Traffic accidents
Finishing a task
Forgetful
Non stop talking
Interrupting
Poor communication skills
Slow to understand

Years of not dealing with Add could lead to other problems that only make things worse.

Unknowingly self medicating addictions : caffeine, sugar, over eating, drugs, sex and yes even rock and roll.  That's why my happy place is a Rock And Roll fantasy world.

Depression, anxiety, panic, stress, as well as physical problem all these things may bring on as one gets older.

It's a tangled life we lead.  You either deal with it or you don't!

ADD /ADHD or Selfishness?

I had my clothes in the dryer and a second load in the washer.   Someone came in to wash their clothes.

I awoke to one load of my clothes dry lying on top of wet clothes.

It seems that someone couldn't wait for my clothes to dry and bypassed them.  But, never put my wet clothes back in the dryer when they were done.

Of course I found out first thing in the morning, before taking my meds. Barely awake, I went on a rant.  Hell if I was going to be late for work because of someone else why should they sleep.  Of course I knew who did it, yet I wasn't thinking about the people in the house.

Impulse had taken over and my anger came out as fast as you could say morning.  Notice I didnt say good morning.  There was nothing good about it.

Now it's 7am and the whole house is up and mad at me.  I didn't leave wet clothes lying under dry clothes all night, or did I.

Whose fault was it?  My ADD / ADHD or her Selfishness?

I'm the one who impulsively exploded waking everyone up. Besides the fact that I'm the only male in a house with 5 females.

Who do you think got all the blame.  ADD /ADHD is a two way street.  It takes everybody's effort to look out for each other.  Think of how the other person is going to react.  And then do those things that will not cause trouble.

Oh wait, isn't that just compromising with the people you live with something everyone should do?

My Brain with A.D.D.

 Vol 1 | Issue 1 | January 1, 2022

This is my Brain with ADD.

The brain of a man or woman with A.D.D./ Attention Deficit Disorder is like any other brain.   In simple terms they have a chemical in balance that makes it hard to focus.   The brain under normal conditions isn’t fully awake.

Imagine getting 6 hours sleep every night of your life.   You would be totally unfocused, irritable, impulsive, short tempered etc.

Its as simple as that.   There are many causes and thus many treatments.   But basically the treatment is getting better sleep and stimulating the brain to wake up.

There are many options.  But no matter what someone tells you,  its all about what works for you personally.    Learn what you can and try different things.   For me personally a sleep mask may help.  But, I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing one.  Its just not going to work for me.

Keto/ low carb diets  work very well, if you can stay on it .   In this case for the rest of your life.   I know diabetics stay on special diets.  But your asking a person with no impulse control to do something that isn't life threatening.

Focus and Procrastination

"People with ADD/ADHD aren't just forgetfull.  If something isn't important at that very moment, it can wait. Sometimes until it becomes the most important thing, at which time it may be too late!"

Focus and procrastination is my number one enemy.   I'm not sure I spelled that right.  But, I'm afraid of changing my focus to find out.    The average person doesn't understand my problem.   Because spell check doesn't always work, I need to double check.   That means changing my focus from writing to spelling.  The problem is turning my focus back to writing.

Like changing the channel on the T.V..  If you find something interesting, you may not go back to the other program you were watching.

I've been wanting to write this blog for a long time. Thus the time difference between posts. I have notes in composition books all over the place. But , they never get entered in the computer or edited.

Don't be surprised if One day the blog looks different.   Its just what caught my attention at that moment.

Like any other person with ADD or ADHD I could go on talking forever.  Changing subjects and never completing one task at a time.

Because I know most Adders don't have a long attention span, I will stop here and ask that you come back to this blog later for more useful knowledge.

Next up, what I hope to accomplish with this Blog and telling the story of my life with A.D.D. / Attention Deficit Disorder.

Hey, does he have ADD \ ADHD ?

Working in a retail store I get to see and meet all kinds of people.  I work for a food vendor in Supermarkets across the area.

The other day while working in Wal-Mart,  I came a.cross this couple shopping.   I noticed he was using an expensive organizer book with his list on it.   Then I noticed the book looked rather new.

My first thought was this guy had attention Deficit Disorder.   I know that I have lists everywhere.   I use composition books so pages can't get lost like in a traditional pad of paper.   My second thought was he just started his new book and was proudly showing it off.  He probably had other books and lists before.  Maybe a pile of half filled ones like I do.

Let me stop here, before I make this an ADD /ADHD moment.  Look for a future post on using lists and books to remember things.

Later on he was shopping in the aisle I was working in.  I realized I new him.   We had worked together in retail of course.   I remember how he had a motor mouth.  You couldn't start a conversation and expect to walk away quickly.   I have this thing. We all talk, but lets work while were talking.  And not stop and get distracted.

Then it hit me.  I was right he does have ADHD.   Classic can't stand still, always talking.

I guess it does take one to know one!

  • If you get up extra early to go to work, and are still late.  You might have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD \ ADHD).
  • If your thinking about something other than what your reading.  Umm yeah, you might have Attention Deficit Disorder ( ADD \ADHD).
  • If You don't pay your bills until the collection agency calls, even though you have the money.  You might have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).
  • If your wearing two different socks,  You might have ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

  • If you started a blog and only post once a year ( or less), You might have ADD / ADHD.

And Now for an ADD / ADHD Moment.

Wow that plane was flying really low. I wonder if he is landing at the airport.  But, the airports over there.  Where could he land. I heard of planes landing on streets.  But, the wire cross the street.   He could hit the wires.   I wish they would bury those wires.   May be that would stop all the power outages from falling trees.   I have to trim my trees they are getting too over grown.   I'll do that this weekend. yeah its only Monday, I'll never remember to cut the trees this weekend.   Hay what was I doing?  I don't remember. It couldn't of been that important any way.

  • If you get out of the shower to go to pee. You might have ADD / ADHD!
  • If you didn't get out of the shower to pee, then you most likely have ADD / ADHD !

Are Medicines Kosher?

Or Should I say, are there kosher medications?  Do prescription medication need to be Kosher?

I don't know?  Not that I was brought up kosher or anything.   I remember a story of one grandfather serving regular Lipton noodle soup with motzoh balls for Passover.

But today I was reading the package of my generic store brand Omeprazole (Prilsec ).  I saw that it was made in Israel.

So got to thinking (Add/ADHD Moment) if you take a medicine orally shouldn't it have to be certified Kosher?
Well from what I see on the web, they should be.  But, they are not.

About Me: Don;t Know Where To Start.

I sit here on my day off thinking what to write about.   I have dozens of thoughts going through my head.  In the background my wife is watching TV while searching the web on her computer.
I can't quite decide what subject to write about.  So I'm going to just let you see how my mind works, writing what ever pops into my head.   The TV in the other room is loud enough to hear clearly. Hopefully I can block it out.   I'm not a professional writer. In fact English was my worst subjects.   Because I'm bad at it, it never became important until I realized how my communication skills were holding me back at work.
It took 50 years to realize that impressions people have of you are more important that what what your actually capable of.    Nice guys do finish last.   It makes for a great movie.  But, in real life no ever notices the annoying guy really is smart.
A tall good looking, well dressed man who is a smooth talker, always gets the jobs, dates and money.   The short dumpy fat guy with poor communication skills gets looked over.   I can't tell you how many bullshit artists I seen knowing how I could do their job better, but never get the chance.
So where do I start.
I'm 50+ years old Married with kids.  Adult kids with grandchildren, and they all live with me.
I have a fairly new job, been almost a year.  I work in retail sales merchandising.
In the background my wife is know watching "Snapped!".  Think she's looking for ways to get rid of me.  I can't stand the mono tone voice of the narrator.
What was I talking about?   Oh yeah.
Do you think that the way people perceive you is important?   As person with Add/Adhd do you think about this fact before you realize you made a bad impression?
Comments welcome, enquiring ( is that spelled right) minds want to know.
